Some might call it fate, but officially, it was called “Freshmen, Don’t Cut Your Hands Off!”— a carpentry safety class at UNC School of the Arts, taught by upperclassman. 

Jake stood confidently instructing an assorted group of young art students how to use a table saw safely. Among them was Elizabeth, who, at the time, had no interest in the sharp-witted instructor; her only concern was keeping all ten fingers intact.

What followed was a string of encounters, before and after their first date in 2018. Both thriving in the film / Broadway industries, they bond over craftsmanship, nature, strategy games, and yummy treats. When not creating their own card game, Bulldog, they’re battling in Mario Party, perfecting tacos, or experimenting with homemade hot sauce.

Jake brings things to life—whether it’s a flourishing garden, a self-sustaining aquarium, or an incredible meal made from scratch. Elizabeth thrives in the digital and futuristic worlds, shaping stories through editing, and meticulous planning. Together, they balance each other, building a life full of creativity, curiosity, and happiness.
